The Institut San Martín du Benelux at the Reception Celebrating Argentina's National Day
The Institut San Martín du Benelux was honoured to attend the reception hosted by the Embassy of Argentina to the Kingdom of Belgium, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the European Union to commemorate the 210th anniversary of Argentina’s Declaration of Independence. In his address, Ambassador Fernando Iglesias paid tribute to the decisive role of General José de San Martín in Argentina’s independence and the liberation of South America. The Institute was represented by its President, Juan Dávila y Verdin.
Welcome Luncheon at the Prince Albert Club with Our Guests from Argentina and Spain

The Prince Albert Club hosted a welcome luncheon in honour of General Alejandro Díaz-Bessone and Mr José Luis Carrone, President of the Instituto Sanmartiniano de España. Following the luncheon, participants visited the Monument to General José de San Martín in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre to pay tribute to the Liberator and commemorate his historic links with Brussels.
Academic Conference: The Exile of General José de San Martín (1822–1850)

Commemoration of the 248th Anniversary of the Birth of General San Martín

On 25 February 2026, a commemorative ceremony was held in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre to mark the 248th anniversary of the birth of General José de San Martín. The event also marked the first official engagement of His Excellency Mr Fernando Iglesias as Ambassador of the Argentine Republic to the Kingdom of Belgium and the European Union.

The inaugural ceremony of the San Martín Institute of the Benelux marked the official launch of this new organisation dedicated to promoting the historical, cultural and educational legacy of General José de San Martín in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. The event brought together diplomatic and academic representatives, as well as members of civil society, to celebrate the beginning of this initiative and strengthen ties between the Benelux countries and Latin America.
Commemoration of the 175th Anniversary of the Death of General José de San Martín

The event was organised by the Embassy of the Argentine Republic to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Argentine Mission to the European Union at the Monument to General José de San Martín in Brussels. The ceremony brought together delegations from Argentina, Peru and Chile, representatives of Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, as well as members of the Belgian Senate and the Chamber of Representatives. It also marked the first public presentation of the Organising Committee of the Institut San Martín du Benelux.
